From a strictly tonal point of view, alto sax is closer to trumpet than tenor sax. From a playing point of view, tenor sax is the most flexible. I have one in 7* and like it a lot. I think the sound is more complex and colorful than their HR* model, which I had for comparison. The HR* added kind of a buzz on top of everything that I didn’t like. If the Custom Dark feels stuffy to you, you’re probably using the wrong reed.
