The car itself does not contain any driver's area control to pop the trunk, but the Mazda keyfob does - see the picture. It is unlocked and opened in the single activity of pressing the rectangular button in back. Not sure why you’re finding that you shouldn’t manually open it, but FYI, you can manually set the level you want the liftgate to open up to, so I can’t imagine opening it ...I work at a mazda dealer.
